Final Evaluation of the Strengthening Inclusive Education Systems and Services Project

FDM is contracted by Handicap International to conduct the Final Evaluation of the Strengthening Inclusive Education Systems and Services project in Chitwan District. This project aims to promote equitable access to quality education. It focuses on improving learning achievements in basic level grades for girls and boys with disabilities, including those with complex disabilities, as well as other children with learning support needs.

Research Design and Methodology

FDM plans to adopt a quasi-experimental research design. This approach will integrate both quantitative surveys and qualitative data collection methods. By doing so, we aim to ensure comprehensive insights into the effectiveness of the project.

Study Area

The evaluation will take place in Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Kalika Municipality (Treatment group), and Ratnanagr Municipality (Control group). This geographic focus allows us to compare the outcomes in areas where the project is implemented against those where it is not.

Quantitative Sample

The quantitative sample will include:

  • 225 school-going children

  • 162 home-based schooling children

  • 162 parents of home-based schooling children

  • 75 parents receiving livelihood support

  • 260 teachers

This diverse sample will help us gather a wide range of data to assess the project's impact.

Qualitative Sample

For the qualitative aspect, we will conduct:

  • 39 Key Informant Interviews (KIIs)

  • 8 Focus Group Discussions (FGDs)

  • 1 stakeholder workshop

These methods will provide deeper insights into the experiences and perceptions of various stakeholders involved in the project.

Importance of Inclusive Education

Inclusive education is crucial for fostering a society where all children can thrive. It ensures that children with disabilities receive the same educational opportunities as their peers. This approach not only benefits the children but also enriches the learning environment for everyone.

The Role of Stakeholders

Stakeholders play a vital role in the success of inclusive education initiatives. Their involvement can lead to better resource allocation, improved training for teachers, and enhanced support for families. Collaboration among government, non-government, and private sector organizations is essential for creating a sustainable impact.

Challenges in Implementation

Despite the importance of inclusive education, several challenges remain. These include:

  • Limited resources and funding

  • Insufficient training for educators

  • Societal stigma surrounding disabilities

Addressing these challenges requires a concerted effort from all stakeholders involved.

Conclusion

The Final Evaluation of the Strengthening Inclusive Education Systems and Services project represents a significant step towards ensuring equitable access to quality education in Nepal. By employing a robust research design and engaging with various stakeholders, FDM aims to provide valuable insights that can inform future initiatives.

Through our commitment to effective management practices and comprehensive support services, we strive to be the go-to partner for public, private, and NGO sectors in Nepal, helping them achieve sustainable development.
