Rapid Situation Assessment of Banke, Bardiya, Dang, and Kapilvastu District of Lumbini Province

VSO International, with funding from the Hempel Foundation, has initiated a three- and half-year intervention from May 2025 with the primary objective to improve foundational learning skills (literacy and numeracy skills) of marginalized girls and boys aged 5-14 in Lumbini Province. It has also aimed to strengthen school governance and teacher capacity to promote inclusive; child-friendly & gender-responsive teaching; and institutionalization of mentoring approach through policy advocacy and local government engagement.

VSO has contracted FDM for this rapid assessment to assess the socio-economic context, educational contexts, situation of remedial learning, barriers to access of quality education, potential areas of joint interventions with local government following value for money (VfM) principles for the project impact.


Study Area: Lumbini province (Kapilvastu, Dang, Banke and Bardiya districts)

Sample: 45 (FGDs, KIIs and School observations)

Duration: May-June 2025
